Today I’m letting one of my August sponsors introduce themselves, Diana from Down Home Traveler. If you like to explore, take day trips or are from Texas, Diana has some great travel tips, reviews and photos for you to look through.
Hi Everyone at Terrell Family Fun!! I’m Diana from Down Home Traveler, where I write about all things, well we’ll just call it exploration. Food, music, crafts, being a back road tourist in your own (and others) backyard and everything in between! If you haven’t been able to tell, I have a hard time sitting still.
A little over four years ago, I moved from life as I knew it (aka a small, dairy farming town in Vermont) to the cowboy filled, Southern metroplex of Dallas / Fort Worth, Texas. We’ll just say it was a huge adjustment. One thing that didn’t changed is my love for seeing what’s around and there’s plenty in the South!
Sometimes it’s just fun to be a “tourist” in your own backyard, figuratively speaking. Sometimes, we don’t even know what’s really out there. It’s kind of like judging a book by its cover. You have an idea of what the “big” attractions are in your area (amusement parks, professional sports, headlining stars, malls) but do you have an idea of the little things? These are the cornerstones. Mom and pop stores, diners, antique stops, new artists, or just driving around and checking out what you can find on the back roads. It’s when you get into the nitty gritty that it really just becomes really interesting and exciting. The best part is, it’s not just like that in your backyard, it’s really anywhere you happen to be.
To be honest, I started my blog so my family back home can see what I’ve been up to (and remember what I’ve done in my old age). My goal is to have my readers feel as if they were there with me, at a concert, enjoying a new place for dinner, or sightseeing in a new area. I hope to encourage you to go out there and dig around and take as much in as you can. Enjoy it, experience it, share it with others. I can’t wait to see what else there is out there and to see what you check out in your neck of the woods!
Thanks again to Diana. Do you have a suggestion of where Diana should go to next? Do you have a hidden gem that she should explore – I’m sure she would love the tip!
