Family Travel Conference, Dallas {weekend recap}

Dallas view from Omni Dallas Hotel

This weekend I was invited to join in on the Family Travel Conference in Dallas, TX {#FTCDallas}. I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect. I don’t consider myself a travel blogger, which was the main audience of this conference, but as some of you know, I do live in the travel world as I work at a large travel company, and I’m a blogger, so close enough…right? Oh, and I was local, that was a big deciding factor! I figured what could I really lose? So off I went on Friday afternoon and all day Saturday.  It was better than my expectations.

Although, the skills they were refining and teaching about while in the sessions, didn’t apply to me directly {mostly video focused}, I still given the motivation to keep going and I was able to see how other bloggers work. I was able to start developing some new friendships and relationships with local businesses/CVB’s, and of course, other bloggers!

While at FTCDallas, we were trending on twitter, exploring Dallas and the beautiful Omni Dallas Hotel, crossing path’s with well-known celebrities and being wined and dined. Here is a little recap of all the events we got to participate in throughout the weekend:

We had a tour of the Owners Box Sports Bar, VIP room. They have 72 screens throughout this bar {not including the ones in the restrooms!!}, a VIP room, a cooling rail on the bar {place your drink on the rail and it will stay cold the whole time you are drinking it}, DELICIOUS food and drinks {everything made from scratch} and the atmosphere is just great. There may or may not have been an NSYNC member sighting while there {the 14-year-old Heather was pretty excited, along with my new friend Becky!}

I pretty much go no pictures around the hotel… I’m not sure why! I didn’t get to stay overnight, poor planning on my part, but I really want to bring Kyle here for a night sometime this winter, it is an AMAZING hotel!

Disney was one of the great sponsors of this event, so course we got to meet Mickey and Minnie Mouse! I think Lennox was excited about this.. I got to bring home some gifts from Mickey as well 🙂

Friday night we went to the Dallas Zoo for a private event and dinner. We got to be up close and personal with the penguins, turtles, owl, lions, giraffes and elephants. As always, the Dallas Zoo didn’t fail. They are great!

Saturday night we went on a progressive dinner at the Galleria Dallas. We got to see the largest indoor Christmas tree, an ice skating performance, dinner, dessert and a sneak peek at some of the great shops they have. I can’t wait to head back for our annual christmas trip — it really is a fun day when we get to go to the Galleria Dallas!  Did you know it’s one of the most visited attractions in Dallas/Fort Worth?

Dinner at Mi Cocina — All these out of staters had to have some Mexican!

So it was a great weekend, but exhausting! I can only imagine what BlogHer is going to be like next year, I was so exhausted after just one full (7am-11pm) day!

Thanks to all the sponsors this weekend and especially  to FTCDallas for sponsoring me to go this weekend and including me. I had a good time and look forward to building the relationships that were started over the weekend!

      I totally understand now! I have been to conferences before, but this one was a little different. It got me excited for BlogHer though, which honestly, I have much higher hopes for!

    Hi Heather!
    I don’t think we got a chance to meet but it was a fabulous conference and loved that it was intimate enough to actually meet and chat with the sponsors. Great post.
