ICE! 2012 Merry Madagascar

ICE! Merry Madagascar

Last week we headed out to the Gaylord Texan in Grapevine, TX for our annual Terrell family visit to ICE!  For those of you who don’t know what that is.. It’s an exhibit made completely from close to 2 million pounds of ice {TWO MILLION?!}. There are 40 artists from China head over here in the early fall to build this incredible spectacle.

This year’s theme was Merry Madagascar. And I don’t know about your little ones, but Lennox LOVES Madagascar so I was excited for her to see all her animal friends!

We usually go during the week, when it’s not busy at all, as we get free tickets since Kyle’s mom works there, but this year we went Thanksgiving week. Bad idea! It was so busy. Honestly, when it’s that busy, its not as enjoyable, but we still had a good time. We bundled up {they give you heavy coats} and then we were ready to enter the arctic zone! Lennox was ready to go and told me to say cheese so she could take my picture … with her hands!

We were greeted from music and lines from the movie, as well as all the fun characters. Alex, Marty, Gloria and Melvin!

I don’t think Lennox really knew how to handle all of it. You could tell she was looking forward to it but when she got in there, she was a little overwhelmed by the cold {20 degrees} and all the people. I think if it hadn’t been so busy, should would of run around a little more.

The colors are always so vibrant and fun. Apparently is i just done with food coloring/dye. I always wonder what they do when the exhibit is over. I’ve heard they dump it in the lake… I wonder if that’s true? What a sight that would be!

As always, they have the traditional christmas scenes made out of clear ice. They always end their exhibit with this. It’s a nice ending!

Here is a look at some past year themes as well:

Last year the theme was Shrek The Halls!

And the year before that it was Charlie Brown:

I wonder what the theme will be next year. I think it would be really fun to do a Frosty the Snowman or Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer theme.. or what about Disney?
