I would call our family an “on-the-go” family. We need to stay connected all the time, but staying connected comes with the high cost of an iPhone family plan for us. We were given the opportunity to try out the new Cheap Wireless Plan from Walmart Family Mobile and I figured it was a great way to start saving money.
So why do we need to stay connected all the time? Kyle and I both work full-time outside of the house and Lennox attends Montessori school full-time. We all have different schedules and meetings going on. So when you add a child into that mix, having a schedule and being able to communicate easily with each other at any given time, is very important.
Now that Lennox is in school rather than a daycare, we have an exact schedule to stick to. We try to get her there as soon as the school day starts so that she gets her full day and doesn’t miss any lessons, work time or even recess, because we all know recess is lots of fun!
So, how do we keep the schedule when both parents have to work? We stay connected to each other via our smartphones. Whether it’s a text saying, “Hey can you pick Lennox up? I’m stuck in a meeting” or a “Hey, getting out of work early, I’ll pick up the kiddo so you don’t have to…” we stay connected. Imagine if we didn’t have cell phones or email and we had to actually catch the other person at their desk, I have a feeling we would be crossing our paths more often, showing up at school with Lennox already being picked up and running around like crazy people. It’s so convenient to stay connected all the time via our iPhones. Another bonus of having this connection? Lennox’s school emails us if they need to check on something or send alerts.
So this all sounds great, so what is the catch? Being this connected all the time, comes with a cost. A big cost actually. I love our phones but the service is NOT cheap. I did the math and we pay close to $2,000 a year on our AT&T iPhone bill. That is more than an extra month’s mortgage payment, or 2 months of school tuition, and even more than 5 car payments, etc…you get the picture, It’s a lot! So when we were given the opportunity to try out this new service by Collective Bias and the #FamilyMobileSaves, #cbias campaign, we were excited to save money!
Lucky for you, starting July 14th, Walmart Family Mobile has a price rollback of just $39.88/month on the unlimited plans (unlimited text, talk and web) on all the Concord and MyTouch phones! What a great savings that is compared to how much we have been spending per month through AT&T.
The whole process of getting one of these Walmart Family Mobile cellphones and getting it ready to go is SO simple and fast. No contracts to review, no add-ons to be pushed on by a salesman at the cellphone store, you just go into Walmart, purchase the phone of your choice and buy the $25 starter kit. After, activation you can even log in anytime to access the online account management and information center.
Over the next few months we will be trying out this service and hoping we can save money while still staying just as connected! I will keep you updated on how this all goes, but I have high hopes and my budget will appreciate it!
