Milk, it does a body good – right? That is the slogan we always grew up hearing. I personally love milk. My mom always served milk with dinner and other meals and she created the habit that I still have, of drinking a big class of milk with dinner. Lennox also is a fan of milk, sometimes in the chocolate variety of course, but a lot of times she will ask for white milk – and that makes me happy!
I have tried a lot of different milks and when all of the ultra-pasterized and ultra-filtered milks started coming out, I was interested in trying them. Their longer shelf life was a big selling point, as Kyle does not drink milk – so I was throwing away a lot of milk when I bought the generic gallon of milk. About 6 months ago, I had seen a new milk at my local Kroger grocery store, fairlife. The packaging caught my eye, the shelf life was great and the label said it had 50% more protein, 30% more calcium and 50% less sugar than normal milk. I figured I would give it a try, in both white and chocolate varieties and it was SO good. If you look in my fridge right now you will see 3 bottles of fairlife and no other type of milk.
Other than drinking fairlife with a meal, using it on cereal or even baking with it, I wanted to try making a breakfast smoothie with it. Lennox likes smoothies so she decided to help me out and we made a Banana Peanut Butter smoothie! It was simple, tasty and quick – here is the recipe.
Creamy Peanut Butter Banana Smoothie
- 1 Large (2 Small) Bananas
- 1/2 cup Peanut Butter or Powdered Peanut Butter (your preference)
- 1 Teaspoon of Vanilla
- 1 Small Container of Vanilla Greek Yogurt
- 2/3 cup fairlife (any variety – your preference – I used fairlife white 2%)
Using your blender (I have a personal size blender which works great and is very inexpensive), add in about 10 ice cubes and 2/3 cups of your favorite fairlife variety milk. I used the 2% reduced fat ultra-filtered white milk – but this tastes great with fairlife chocolate milk or fairlife whole milk.
Add in 1 small container (about 1 cup) of Vanilla Greek Yogurt and 1 teaspoon vanilla.
Now you can add in a half cup of peanut butter. I tried powdered peanut butter (PB2) for this recipe – I personally like regular peanut butter better – but this is a little better for you with less sugar – your preference!
Now add in your bananas! I used 2 smaller bananas but you could use 1 large as well.
Blend all your ingredients together and serve! The nice part about the personal blender is that you can drink right from that container (it has a drink lid) of you can pour it into 2 smaller glasses, like we did to share.
fairlife really is the best milk we have had and I’m not throwing away half a gallon every week due to no one drinking it. I don’t plan on purchasing any other type of milk from now on!
What is your favorite type of milk?
