Jillian Michaels One Week Shred – My Experience

Well, last year I shared with you my experience with Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred (here, here and here). A few weeks ago I heard about Jillian Michaels newest work out: One Week Shred. This sounded interesting as it was only a 1 week commitment. So my friend, Sarah from Nurse Loves Farmer, and I decided to buy it and give it a shot. Here are my thoughts on how the week went with Jillian Michaels One Week Shred ($12.99 on Amazon).

Jillian Michaels One Week Shred

Program Overview

The format of the One Week Shred is pretty straight forward; a strength workout in the morning and a cardio workout in the evening. The workouts are similar to the style of 30 Day Shred; 3 or 4 circuits that you do 2 times each. There are some familiar exercises that were in 30DS and some new ones. Do those two workouts a day, for seven days and you have completed the one week shred! Keep in mind, there are no “days off” during this program so plan accordingly!

As always, you get the normal Jillian attitude/motivation, which you have to hear over and over again for 7 days straight. I really wish that she would do a day 1 and 2 recording and then days 3 – 7 recording so that I don’t have to hear all the same intro to each exercise if I have it down.

The Workout

Jillian Michaels One Week Shred Workouts

Personally, I did not enjoy the morning strength workouts. I think this was due to a number of things – I had to get up extra early before work and motherly duties (getting Lennox up and ready for school) so I was trying to do it only a few minutes after rolling out of bed! I may or may not have gone to bed one night in my workout clothes to save time… ha! I also found the strength workout to be pretty difficult. It is broken into 4 circuits (done 2 times each) instead of 3. That somehow played a mental game on me. When there are 3 circuits, it seems like you are moving right along quickly – but with 4, you had to get all the way through 2 to even get to the halfway point!

The cardio workout in the evenings, was much better for me. It is a more fast paced workout that  you are doing at a better time of the day. I found if I did it as soon as I got home from work, I had plenty of energy to get it done and go along with the rest of my evening. This is broken into 3 circuits, just like the 30 Day Shred and mentally it seemed like a quicker workout.

The Results

I won’t lie, I “phoned it in” a few of the workouts. I felt like the workouts got easier as the week got on, and I felt a little stronger during the strength workout – but I don’t see much of any results. This program is accompanied by a one week meal plan that I did not do – but I did try to eat better and I snacked MUCH less than normal. Kyle said he noticed my face got a bit thinner but overall, I don’t find this nearly as effective as the 30 day shred.

My Final Thoughts on Jillian Michaels One Week Shred

This program was developed to be one big push towards an event, goal, ect. I think it would be much more effective if you had been doing something already and wanted one big push to a goal. Starting it from the point where you are just starting your exercise regimen, I would not recommend. It is a big commitment for one week and no way to really maintain it after you are done.

Would I try this again? Possibly – if I was already in the middle of another program and really wanted to get to a goal within the next week. It is a great push to get some final results. Would I recommend this to someone just starting out? no! Twice a day may not sound that big of a deal – but it kind of is, when you are not used to working out on a daily basis!

30 Day Shred or One Week Shred? My suggestion is 30 Day Shred. Having a few break days is really nice, I never realized how much I counted on them and once a day sounds so much better, plus my results were much better!

So those are my thoughts – If you have any questions about the workouts, let me know!

I Did It !!!

I did it, I did it, I DID IT! My first 30 day affair with Jillian Michael’s is DONE! I have completed all 3 levels for 30 days of the 30 day shred. This may not seem like a super huge thing to anyone who regularly works out, but I never work out and I’ve never stuck with it for this long, so I’m pretty proud of myself!

Before I get to the results, I want to look back at each level.

Level 1: I had no idea what to expect. The first day, I wanted to puke, but after day one it got better and after day 5 or 6, my soreness went away! I finished up level 1 and was ready for level 2.

Level 2: Level 2.. I didn’t like you. You were hard, you had a lot of planking, and you got boring, extremely fast. Midway through level 2 is where I started to lose my motivation and momentum. I wasn’t liking this anymore, I just felt bored I guess. So after a 2 day break, I wrapped up level 2 and was ready for my last level and home stretch!

Level 3: After completing level 2, I figured level 3 would pretty much kill me. Day 1 of Level 3, I was so scared of what Jillian was going to make me do! Honestly, Level 3 was pretty easy for me, almost as “easy” as level 1. I don’t know if this is because I had built up some strength and stamina over the first 2 levels, or if it just was easier.. who knows, but I got through it without any problems. I only had to do the modified versions on the traveling push ups and half of the time on the first plank move.

So, now that I’m done…the results.

Thighs: 18″ (-2″)
Weight: 133 lbs. (-5lbs)

30 Day Shred Before & After

So I don’t think I took very good before/after pictures, and I’m not sure if you can see much difference in them, but the biggest difference that I’m seeing is my legs, butt and arms, but I am seeing a difference in my stomach, just not as much as everywhere else.

Would I recommend this to someone else? Yes! I would. If nothing else, it gets you to set a goal and get you in the routine of getting a workout in most every day. I really like that it is a short workout, about 25 minutes, I just don’t have time between working full-time and taking care of Lennox, to get a full hour workout in. So if you are looking for a quick workout, try this one!

What’s Next?
I have ordered Shakeology to give a shot for a month, as well as Jillian Michael’s Ripped in 30. I have heard good things about both, so once we get back from our Vegas Vacation, I will start with all of that. I may only do 5 days a week rather than 7, we’ll just see how it goes!

Weekend Wrap Up

We’ve been so busy lately between holidays, family, projects, etc – this weekend was more of a “normal” weekend in our books. My parents are away on vacation this week and Lennox misses them lots! She even cries out for grandma every time she gets in trouble or gets upset about something — it’s pretty funny actually. I’m sure she will be excited to see them again on Wednesday when they get back to town.

I started the weekend off with Level 3 of the 30 Day Shred! Whew… Level 3 here we go! I actually like Level 3… to me, it is much easier than level 2. We’ll see the final results in just one week!

30 Day Shred Level 3

After school Friday, Lennox decided it would be nice to make her teacher a birthday card (friday was her birthday). So she colored and stuck on a bunch of heart stickers and will proudly give it to her tomorrow, I’m sure. She is so sweet and it was all her idea 🙂

Lennox making Birthday Card

Saturday morning Kyle had to work so Lennox and I hung out. I just love Saturday morning snuggles in bed. Rather than cuddling up next to me, her new thing is laying on top of me, so here we are, snuggled up in bed watching Disney Junior (her favorite!).

Lennox & Mommy Cuddles

This weekend, going to bed has been quite the task for Lennox. She will happily go to bed, but she doesn’t go to sleep! Saturday night she must have sang, talked, played, for almost 2 hours. She is perfectly happy up there at least, but geez, go to sleep! Tonight, she talked and sang for about an hour. I’m glad she is still in her crib so she can’t start roaming around and playing!

Lennox Sleeping

Today, Lennox was so excited to spend the afternoon with her Uncle Kollin & Aunt Sissy. They were nice enough to come over and babysit her while mommy and daddy could go hit the outlet mall to find some new clothing for vacation (next week!). I have horrible luck when it comes to clothes shopping. Ever since I had Lennox, I just don’t seem to find anything for myself, especially when I NEED something. But thankfully, today, i had better luck! The weather is going to be a little funky in Vegas when we go, but I figure layers will be the best bet and we will be in and out so I’ll just have to be a little chilly. It’s not so easy to find cold weather clothes this time of year in Texas.

Has anyone ever been to a LoveCulture store? We have a new one near us, I had never heard of it before, but they have some cute stuff — it reminds me a lot of Forever 21, but I seem to have more luck at it than at Forever 21.

Add a bunch of playing, paint with water, lalaloopsy coloring, movie watching and relaxing into the mix and that would be our weekend! We hope you had a good weekend too!
