I Did It !!!

I did it, I did it, I DID IT! My first 30 day affair with Jillian Michael’s is DONE! I have completed all 3 levels for 30 days of the 30 day shred. This may not seem like a super huge thing to anyone who regularly works out, but I never work out and I’ve never stuck with it for this long, so I’m pretty proud of myself!

Before I get to the results, I want to look back at each level.

Level 1: I had no idea what to expect. The first day, I wanted to puke, but after day one it got better and after day 5 or 6, my soreness went away! I finished up level 1 and was ready for level 2.

Level 2: Level 2.. I didn’t like you. You were hard, you had a lot of planking, and you got boring, extremely fast. Midway through level 2 is where I started to lose my motivation and momentum. I wasn’t liking this anymore, I just felt bored I guess. So after a 2 day break, I wrapped up level 2 and was ready for my last level and home stretch!

Level 3: After completing level 2, I figured level 3 would pretty much kill me. Day 1 of Level 3, I was so scared of what Jillian was going to make me do! Honestly, Level 3 was pretty easy for me, almost as “easy” as level 1. I don’t know if this is because I had built up some strength and stamina over the first 2 levels, or if it just was easier.. who knows, but I got through it without any problems. I only had to do the modified versions on the traveling push ups and half of the time on the first plank move.

So, now that I’m done…the results.

Starting Numbers

Waist: 37″
Arms: 9.5″
Thighs: 20″
Weight: 138 lbs.

30 Day Results

Waist: 33″ (-4″)
Arms: 9″ (-.5″)
Thighs: 18″ (-2″)
Weight: 133 lbs. (-5lbs)

And… the before & after picture.

30 Day Shred Before & After

So I don’t think I took very good before/after pictures, and I’m not sure if you can see much difference in them, but the biggest difference that I’m seeing is my legs, butt and arms, but I am seeing a difference in my stomach, just not as much as everywhere else.

Would I recommend this to someone else? Yes! I would. If nothing else, it gets you to set a goal and get you in the routine of getting a workout in most every day. I really like that it is a short workout, about 25 minutes, I just don’t have time between working full-time and taking care of Lennox, to get a full hour workout in. So if you are looking for a quick workout, try this one!

What’s Next?
I have ordered Shakeology to give a shot for a month, as well as Jillian Michael’s Ripped in 30. I have heard good things about both, so once we get back from our Vegas Vacation, I will start with all of that. I may only do 5 days a week rather than 7, we’ll just see how it goes!

9 Days Left of 30 Day Shred!

Level 2 of Jillian Michael’s 30 Day Shred … is DONE! Woohoo! I’d have to say, and I probably sound crazy, but I’m ready and looking forward to level 3. I know it is going to kick my behind, but I’m so bored with level 2.

Some days you just feel like this:

I found myself losing a lot of motivation and I may have “phoned in” as Jillian would say a few of the workouts during level 2, but I ended strong.

I started off absolutely hating all the plank exercise. I mean really? I my arms wanted to fall off, and then put jumping into it, ha – forget it. I ended up having to do the modified versions for a while but I ended with the full on moves and they were the least of my worries! The chair squats w/ v-flies is pretty much what I hated by the end of this level. My legs hurt half way through the exercise, the rest of my body is ok.

But, complaining aside, I’m very proud of myself for getting this far and the fact that I’m going to continue going! This is more than I think I’ve ever done with a workout/exercise routine outside of sports teams growing up, so for me, this is big! I am already thinking of what I’m going to do once the 30 days are over. I think I will move on to another workout dvd. I need something with a little more variety, or at least a few other options and I don’t think I will end up doing it every single day. I think I would like to have the weekends off, those nights are the hardest to get done to me. Does anyone have any suggestions for good dvds?

As far as results thus far: I am noticing the biggest difference in my legs but I am seeing more definition in my arms and a little bit thinner in the tummy area, but just barely. My jeans are getting a little looser, so I can’t complain about that! I haven’t done all my re-measurements yet, I want to, but I figured I would wait until the end of day 30 to do so. I did weigh myself and I’m down 4-5 pounds. yay!

I’m thinking of adding Shakeology into my routine. If you use it, and have any tips or great recipes to share, let me know!

So, 21 days down, 9 more to go! Here we go, Level 3 — BRING IT ON!

Keep on Shredin’

Well, I’m almost half way through the Shred. 1 more day to go and i’ll be there. I am proud of myself for getting this far and I can’t wait to get to 30 days to see what type of results I have gotten. Below is my update.. and don’t forget to join in with my link up at the end of this post.

Day 12:

Back into my daily work, take care of Lennox, get her to bed and then workout routine. Workout went well. In a way, I actually enjoy the walking push ups. They are so much easier in my opinion than regular push ups (and a lot less). I feel like a lot of the exercises in Level 2 are working a lot more muscles than Level 1, so I do feel like I’m getting somewhere.

No gym work out today, little miss Lennox was home sick with me.

Day 13:

I wasn’t as into workout today. But I pushed through and did it. Somehow about 1/2 way through the workout, I hurt the top front of my legs. I don’t even know how I did it, I was just getting some sharp pains. Maybe I was just “feeling the burn” that Jillian talks about, but I don’t think so. Hopefully Today was not as much fun. Somehow during the workout I hurt the front of my legs so I had a sharp pain while doing some of the exercises, but i pushed through and finished. I’m hoping my muscles loosen up overnight and while doing my gym workout tomorrow.

No gym work out today due to work meeting.

Day 14:

Just finished up day 14. My legs still hurt about half way through, I don’t know exactly what I’ve done. I think I may take 1 rest day this weekend in hopes that my legs will feel better again. Anyone else experienced this while doing the Shred?

Gym update: Back to the gym today at work — It had been almost a week so I took a little step back but moving forward again now. I would have to say, after I was headed back to my desk, I realized how good it felt to get up and do some exercise for 30 minutes. It is a nice break from sitting at my desk, staring at my screen all day. I would have to agree with the studies out there that some physical activities at lunchtime help improve mood and productivity at work the rest of the day. I found this interesting infographic all about working out during work.
