consignment sales are not just for baby stuff

Hey Parents! Consignment sales are not just for baby stuff! [+ Giveaway!]

Now that my daughter, who is 5 years old, is no longer a baby – sometimes consignment sale shopping can seem a little outgrown, but then I go back every sale and remember how amazing it really is! There are a number of items I always find at each sale I go to, that save me so much money over retail pricing.

Consignment Sales for Big Kids

Here are a few of my favorite items to look for:

Clothing: Clothes, clothes and more clothes. This is the number one item I get at consignment sales now. I am able to get Lennox’s full summer wardrobe for $150 or so. During the spring sales I love to find lots of sundresses, bathing suits and play clothes for summer camp. Another great clothing item to find are school uniforms – especially during the fall sale. They are usually about 90% off retail prices – you can’t beat that!

Shoes: Shoes, especially those for summer camp or playdates are great to find at consignment sales. Kids are tough on shoes and can out grown them so quickly, I hate to spend $30-40 a pair – $3-6 each is much better! Since usually your kids aren’t with you at the sale, try this tip to find does that fit without them there!

Books: There are endless boxes of books at Just Between Friends Fort Worth. Books are a great thing to find, especially on the half-price days. A book for 50cents to $2 is great, especially for hardcover books!

Games: Board games are abundant at Just Between Friends Fort Worth and a great addition to your playroom or family game night. Usually I can find board games in great condition for $2 or $3. I try to get 2 or 3 new ones each sale.

Toys: A lot of the toys that are at Just Between Friends are actually for younger children, but there are still some great Melissa & Doug craft sets, Barbie’s and other dolls and whatever the current trendy toy is! Finding a few new toys each sale as a “gift” right away is always fun too.

So, as you can see – there are plenty of items to shop for even when your kids outgrow all of the baby equipment and baby toys.

Just Between Friends Fort Worth, is by far my most favorite consignment sale. It has so many great deals and I look forward to it every Spring and Fall. The Spring 2016 sale is coming up within the next few weeks. If you aren’t familiar with Just Between Friends Fort Worth by now, it is Texas’ Largest children and maternity consignment sale. It is located at the Will Rogers Memorial Center Amon G. Carter Exhibit Hall in 75,000 sure feet. It will be open to the public March 3-6th (full schedule can be found here).

How to Save on Back to School Clothes - Consignment Sale Shopping Tips

How to Get Ready for School with Just Between Friends

Make your list: The #1 thing you need to do before you head into the sale is have a list prepared – whether you write it down or keep it in mentally – you need to have one. It gets a bit overwhelming in the sale if you haven’t attended before – so keep that in mind as well! I always write my list down, as I know i’ll forget something!

Figure out your priorities: Does your child need shoes the most for school? Uniforms? Clothes?Sports equipment? Figure out which is the most important and head to that area first! You can save SO much money no matter what you shop for – but if you are like us and have a child who wears a uniform – there are huge savings to be found at the JBF Fort Worth sale.

Earn Money = Saving Money: Do you have a pile of clothes from the last school year that you no longer need? Why not consign it at JBF Fort Worth and earn some extra cash. That cash can be used to buy clothes for this year or even supplies! Selling your items does not need to break the bank either, here are some tips on how to consign on a budget!

Volunteer! This isn’t exactly related to back to school but you really do get the BEST deals and BEST selection by volunteering and shopping EARLY! The more you volunteer, the earlier you get to shop, the more deals there are to be found! I always volunteer and encourage others to as well – it really is the best time to shop!

How to find the best consignment sale deals

How to Find the BEST Consignment Sale Deals + Giveaway!

Consignment sale season seems to sneak up on me every year. This year, my normal routine is being changed as I wont be here for my very favorite consignment sale – Just Between Friends Fort Worth – but I still love the fact that I am working with them this season and look forward to finding deals other ways this spring for my daughter.

If you are a “consignment sale” newbie, Just Between Friends is a large network of children’s consignment sales – with my local Just Between Friends being in Fort Worth. Just Between Friends Fort Worth is Texas’ LARGEST children’s and maternity consignment sale! The spring sale is open to the public Thursday March 5th – Monday March 9th 2015 at Fort Worth’s Will Rogers Memorial Center – Amon G. Carter Exhibit Hall.

I have been shopping at Just Between Friends Fort Worth, ever since Lennox was still in my belly! The majority of her clothes, shoes and toys have come from this sale and I have saved THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS! If you have little children, or you are expecting, you really need to check this sale out!

So are you wondering how I have saved THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS? Do you want to know what my shopping secrets are? Well here you go! I’m happy to share!

How to find the best consignment sale deals

HOW TO FIND THE BEST CONSIGNMENT SALE DEALS

HAVE A PLAN: Make sure before you head to the sale, you make a list of the items you are looking for, including the sizes if applicable. Once you have your list, try to organize that list into the priority that you want to look. For example, if you know you need shoes really badly, and you are most excited about finding a good deal on shoes, put that at the top of your list!

BE IN THE KNOW: Although you can find almost anything that you need for your children at Just Between Friends, you really need to know what is the best deal and what is not that great of a deal. Since all the items are individually priced and tagged by the consignors themselves, there can be 10 of the same item, at 10 different prices! Try to know what the retail price is, and then find the best deal! Buying an outfit by Granimals or Circo brand that is only a $1 cheaper than going to buy it new, is not a great deal, but buying a gap baby outfit for $3 is a great deal! With that being said, sometimes I still buy the basics and only save a little bit – but its the fact that I can do it all in one stop that makes me buy some basics along with the higher quality brands.

SHOP EARLY: Shopping early is the biggest tip I can give anyone that wants to start shopping Just Between Friends Fort Worth or any consignment sale for that matter. The earlier you shop, the better deals you will find. It’s true, of course, the items get picked over the longer the sale is going on. So I have always made an effort to shop as early as possible. To shop earlier than the general public, consider volunteering a shift or two, doing a barter job or even consigning. All of these will allow you to shop earlier than the general public. My recommendation would be to volunteer – and the more you volunteer, the earlier you get to shop! These sales are run on volunteers only and they couldn’t happen without the help of the community!

TIP! If you are a first time parent or grandparent – you can sign up to shop early (registration for the First Time Parent / Grandparent Sale ends March 3)! For more information visit: http://fortworth.jbfsale.com/extraPageView.jsp?pageName=extraPageShop

TAKE YOUR TIME: When you go to shop, plan on leaving the kids at home and having plenty of time. It would be no surprise to my family if I was at the sale for 4-5 hours. It takes a long time to go through all the clothing racks, toys, shoes, bedding, book, etc. It’s all great stuff and taking your time to look through everything and then sorting through the items you have pulled to pick out your favorites is key!

SHOP EVERY SALE: The best way to save money year-round is to shop every sale that Just Between Friends Fort Worth has! They have a spring sale and a fall sale – I tend to buy for the current season and the next season – so that I’m covered for 90% of the items that my daughter will need until the next sale.
