Spring Craft for Great Grandma

My Grandmother, Lennox’s Great Grandmother, unfortunately fell down some steps a few weeks ago and after 2 weeks of undiagnosed pain, they finally figured out she has a broken leg. Now she has to be in a full leg cast and wheelchair for the next 8-10 weeks. She technically lives alone, but her apartment is attached to my aunt & uncles house, so she isn’t really alone. Either way though, she is getting bored and lonely. She can’t get out of the house and it’s not even nice enough weather where she lives yet, to go outside on her deck.

So, we were put to the task of trying to cheer her up, from half way across the country. I figured some crafts from Lennox would put a smile on her face when they came in the mail!

Lennox got to work on Saturday morning and painted a table full of paintings, hand prints, etc. I turned to Pinterest for some inspiration and ended up with some hand print flower bouquets! handprint-flowers

I think they came out pretty cute. We did a few bouquets, Lalaloopsy coloring pages, other hand prints (she liked having me print my hand and then putting her print next to mine, etc. She asked to paint my face… I had to stop her at that point 😉lennox-painting3 lennox-painting2

She likes to multi-task — paint and watch television… this kid!lennox-painting

I’m going to keep having her make things every week or two and send it to her Great Grandma – do you have any suggestions of cute spring time toddler crafts that will make great grandma smile?

Look! Animals!

My parents headed back up north last week, but before they left we had one more family outing to the Dallas Zoo. It was a beautiful day weather wise, so it worked out to be a great day. The Dallas Zoo really is so different from the Fort Worth Zoo (which is closer to our house) but my dad hadn’t seen it yet, so we decide to head there.

We played on the elephant statues and safari truck…IMG_0977

We watched animals with Aunt Kim (Lennox just loves her auntie Kim!)

IMG_1094IMG_1060The Gorillas were FINALLY out. Everytime we go, they are always hiding in their habitat. That is one benefit and disadvantage to the Dallas Zoo. Since it a research zoo, the animals have huge habitats, to make them feel more in the wild. You get to see them interacting with other animals at times, but then other times they are nowhere to be found!

Then we got to do our favorite part, feed the giraffes! You can buy lettuce (or crackers, depending on the day) and go right up and feed them. Some of them will even let you pet their heads. The kids loved this!

If you didn’t know, Giraffes have really long gray tongues! IMG_1008

While we were there, they had a Macaw fly away during a bird show (or from their habitat, I’m not sure with – they are not caged in). I have never seen so many zoo keepers running around! It’s pretty much an impossible animal to catch. The last we knew it was heading for the highway, hopefully it decided to come back home!

And a few other pictures from the day…IMG_1137Cousins 🙂

It was a nice end to my parents annual winter visit. Lennox misses them so much already, although I think she is a little mad they left! But whenever she gets in trouble, she starts calling for Grandma & Papa… go figure!

Happy Birthday Papa

The other day was Lennox’s Papa’s birthday!

On his actual birthday, he was not here, but she wanted to make him something so we decided to make a poster/big birthday card for him! We decided to cut out some balloons, paint them and then put them on a poster. We actually hadn’t let Lennox paint at home before, other than water colors, so she was excited to use real paints and get messy!

Once we had the final product complete, we had to send Papa a birthday wish via txt. If this video doesn’t make you smile, I don’t know what will!

Really? Just so cute.

Once Papa came back, Lennox made him a cake, she picked GREEN.. so we had a green chocolate cake with rainbow and Halloween (It’s what we had in our pantry!) sprinkles! Of course she had to help Papa blow out the candles!
