Pudding Cups & Easter Eggs

This post is sponsored by Snack Pack®. All opinions are 100% my own.

Easter is less than 2 weeks away, and so instead of dying Easter eggs at the last possible moment, as we usually do, I decided to pick up some Easter egg dye, Snack Pack® Pudding Cups and eggs this weekend, and let my daughter start decorating a little earlier this year.

You’re probably wondering why the pudding? What do Snack Pack® Pudding Cups and dying Easter eggs have to do with one another? Well – while Snack Pack® Pudding is an easy go-to snack for your kids, make sure to save all of the empty pudding cups because they are the perfect size for dying Easter eggs. They are especially good for those little fingers that can’t quite figure out how to use the egg dippers!

Just add some vinegar to each of the empty Snack Pack Pudding Cups and drop in the dye tablets. Once they have dissolved you can add in more vinegar for a deeper color or water for a more pastel color. Either way, fill up the cups about 2/3’s. This will give you enough room to dip in the eggs without them spilling.

Once your kids have finished dying their Easter eggs the cups can just be recycled for quick clean up or saved for another use.

#SparkAMind with Curious Moments with Houghton Mifflin Harcourt

This post was sponsored by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt as part of an Influencer Activation for Influence Central.

#sparkamind-01

I recently learned about Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, a program designed to capture moments that spark the curiosity in children (and all of us) and expand on them. All those moments can add up to something much bigger, they can add up to a lifetime of learning and curiosity. Recently releasing their #SparkAMind program, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt strives to capture all these curious moments and they have built a space where people can share ideas and ways to help encourage even more similar moments.

Lennox has always been curious – but at the end of last year, we moved from a house that had almost no backyard, to a house that is on close to an acre of land. With the new home and yard, grew a huge curiosity for Lennox. She wanted to go exploring every inch of the yard, inspecting the plants, the trees, the bugs/animals and the flowers.

It was such a great change for her, even if it was emotionally stressing and difficult on the whole family, her curiosity and chance to learn outside expended so much overnight.

I love to let Lennox go outside and explore on her own now. I can watch from inside or on the deck and she seems so little in such a big space. I can hear her singing and talking to herself, examining flowers, cutting flowers to bring in – or just running around and having fun like a little kid should!

If your child has a curious moment and you decide to capture it through a though, a photo, a video; just tag it with #SparkAMind for others to see. On the Houghton Mifflin Harcourt website, all of those captured #SparkAMind moments will be put together to view. They then use all of those views and shares as a way to help low-income communities. For each share, they will donate a children’s book to an early learning organization to help bridge the gap between multi-income groups and help give today’s children the resources for a successful education and life.

Another great way to help allow your children to be curious is through the Curious World app available through Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. The Curious World app is an early learning app for children ages 3-7. It has education games, books, videos and much more. consignment sales are not just for baby stuff

Hey Parents! Consignment sales are not just for baby stuff! [+ Giveaway!]

Now that my daughter, who is 5 years old, is no longer a baby – sometimes consignment sale shopping can seem a little outgrown, but then I go back every sale and remember how amazing it really is! There are a number of items I always find at each sale I go to, that save me so much money over retail pricing.

Consignment Sales for Big Kids

Here are a few of my favorite items to look for:

Clothing: Clothes, clothes and more clothes. This is the number one item I get at consignment sales now. I am able to get Lennox’s full summer wardrobe for $150 or so. During the spring sales I love to find lots of sundresses, bathing suits and play clothes for summer camp. Another great clothing item to find are school uniforms – especially during the fall sale. They are usually about 90% off retail prices – you can’t beat that!

Shoes: Shoes, especially those for summer camp or playdates are great to find at consignment sales. Kids are tough on shoes and can out grown them so quickly, I hate to spend $30-40 a pair – $3-6 each is much better! Since usually your kids aren’t with you at the sale, try this tip to find does that fit without them there!

Books: There are endless boxes of books at Just Between Friends Fort Worth. Books are a great thing to find, especially on the half-price days. A book for 50cents to $2 is great, especially for hardcover books!

Games: Board games are abundant at Just Between Friends Fort Worth and a great addition to your playroom or family game night. Usually I can find board games in great condition for $2 or $3. I try to get 2 or 3 new ones each sale.

Toys: A lot of the toys that are at Just Between Friends are actually for younger children, but there are still some great Melissa & Doug craft sets, Barbie’s and other dolls and whatever the current trendy toy is! Finding a few new toys each sale as a “gift” right away is always fun too.

So, as you can see – there are plenty of items to shop for even when your kids outgrow all of the baby equipment and baby toys.

Just Between Friends Fort Worth, is by far my most favorite consignment sale. It has so many great deals and I look forward to it every Spring and Fall. The Spring 2016 sale is coming up within the next few weeks. If you aren’t familiar with Just Between Friends Fort Worth by now, it is Texas’ Largest children and maternity consignment sale. It is located at the Will Rogers Memorial Center Amon G. Carter Exhibit Hall in 75,000 sure feet. It will be open to the public March 3-6th (full schedule can be found here).
