Our Favorite Top 3 Baby Items {Toddle Along Tuesday}

This weeks Toddle Along Tuesday topic is “Favorite Baby Item”. Well, little miss Lennox is no longer a little baby but I remember some items that we loved! So here are my top 3 baby items that I would recommend to other expecting parents or would buy again if we were to have another child!

#1 on our list is the Miracle Blanket!

This thing was AMAZING. The Miracle Blanket is a swaddle blanket, but it is so much better than a regular blanket or a SwaddleMe with velcro. Lennox always busted out of her swaddles but this thing she couldn’t get out of and it helped her sleep through the night at 5 or 6 weeks old! {I’m so bless to have a child that started STTN at 5 weeks!} We received this swaddle from a co-worker who swore by it. I had never heard of it or seen it before, and honestly, it seemed extra complicated to use! But, once we got the hang of it get the hang of it, it is easy to use! It really is a “miracle blanket”!

#2: Fisher-Price Papasan Cradle Swing

My grandmother gave us a Graco swing before Lennox was born. We put it together and had it all ready for Lennox the day she came home from the hospital. Well, that swing only lasted about a week before it decided to break! We brought it back to Toys R Us (thankfully without any hassle, since we no longer had the box or receipt) and traded it in for this Fisher Price swing. This swing was so much better! Lennox just LOVED being in her swing – for the first 3 months, she took all her naps in that thing. It has had hours upon hours of use and it kept working great. Another really nice feature is that it plugs into the wall. It will take batteries if you need it to, but they drain fast. Plugging it in, saved us a lot of money on batteries!

#3: The Infamous Fisher-Price Seahorse

I think most people have or have had this seahorse in the past. It is today’s version of the glow-worm that I remember having as a kid. Lennox loves it. We got it when she was maybe 6 months {I’m not even sure exactly when} and she has loved it ever since! Even today at 26 months, Lennox still sleeps with it every night and asks for her seahorse when it’s not there. It doesn’t even need to have the batteries in it for her to love it!

Saving money on baby formula

As we get closer to Lennox turning one and towards what I’m assuming is the end of bottles of baby formula, I realize I never did have to pay as much as I had expected and worried about. I remember when Lennox was first born and I was looking up formula information for when we started needing it. I compared the brands and the prices. I also thought about using store brand formula instead since it was about half the price and seemed to be about the same product, but by the time I had to start buying, I had found much cheaper ways to my name brand formula, specifically Similac. There are lots of other deals out there on the other brands, but this is what I found with the brand we decided to use.

Just like I posted about getting diapers from amazon, I found great deals. I always had the best luck getting formula at Target. As a side note, Target is great with coupons, unlike some other stores, their cashiers can actually complete the whole transaction without having to get the manager to approve everything. So, this is what I would do…

The best deal for us at home was actually using the concentrate bottles or the ready feed once Lennox started daycare. Concentrate is about $9.50/bottle and ready feed is $4-$5/bottle. If you want powder it’s $21/large container or $12/small can. I would combine multiple coupons, single coupons and rebate checks you get in the mail. (Hint: you can email the company directly for more checks or trade online). The more you have, the better. Another helpful way to get free formula is to sign up for their mailing list and they will send you a few cans to try along with more rebate checks. Of course you will want to sign up the whole dang family! The more the merrier!

At one point they had coupons on their products that were $10 off 3 bottles of concentrate (I collected as many of these as I could!. Then they also run $3-$5 coupons off one item in the newspaper inserts or online. Finally you have the rebate checks that range from $5 to $10 (with the random $20 one mixed in!!)

So the best scenario I would end up doing is:

Buy 3 bottles of concentrate $9 each x 3 = $28.50 total before coupons
Use 1 $10 off 3 manufacturer coupon
AND Use 3 $5 off any Similac item
Total coupons $25, bringing the total down to $3.50.
THEN use a rebate check for $5 (or 3 if you have one) and it will make the 3 bottles FREE!

Once in a while there would even be sales or target coupons you could stack on top of that and create overage to use on other products :) When I really think about the amount we spent in the 6 months of formula feeding so far has been approximately $50, and that includes a $20 tube I paid full price for!

So don’t be discouraged by the high price of formula. Just do a little searching for coupons and you will be able to save TONS like we did! :)

Bags are packed and ready to go…

Now, where is Lennox??

Not too much longer! Hospital bag is packed and ready to go, whenever Lennox is ready to be here! The hotter it gets each day (going to be in the 100′s this weekend) the faster I want her to arrive so that I don’t have to be pregnant and hot — just hot I guess – but that’s Texas!

Nothing else is really going on here – I have finished going into the office for work, but still working from home until the day it’s time to go to the hospital! It’s so nice that I have that ability because I’m too uncomfortable at this point to deal to get up earlier, get ready, get into the office, be in the office all day and then get home! I had a good burst of energy over the weekend and got some things done around the house, but most of that energy has left me at this point, maybe I’ll get another one? I won’t bet on it!

Here are the latest belly pics – this one was taken last night – Mandy was in the picture too but I don’t know if I’m allowed to post that, so I’ll leave that to her to do!
