A Hello Kitty Birthday Party

The other week I guest posted on Tiny Print’s blog about our Hello Kitty birthday party! I will be showing you a bunch more about Lennox’s 5th birthday coming up in the next week or so – but I wanted to give you a peek at some of my favorite decorations now! You can find the original post here on Tiny Prints.

Hello Kitty is such a fun theme – there are so many DIY decorations you can do for this theme and it’s the ultimate girly theme! My daughter’s favorite colors are pink and purple so it fit right in. I started with making a big birthday banner for Lennox, using my Silhouette Portrait. I had never made such a big banner but really it was simple, just a little time consuming. You can find a full tutorial and source files here.

Now, let’s talk party invitations! Picking out an invitation that was colorful and bright was key, and when I saw the Harmony in Time invitation, it was an instant favorite of mine. I loved that we could include a photo of our daughter to incorporate the Hello Kitty theme in her outfit, and then have room for all of the party details.

Secondly, on the party table we had snacks, drinks and CAKE! To decorate the table more, I created a few 5×7 Acrylic Photo Blocks that everyone loved. They are high quality, a great keepsake and a perfect addition to any party table.

In addition to the invitations and photos – there are some really easy ways to add more pink to the party! Organize the plastic utensils in mason jars wrapped with pink and white ribbon. It’s inexpensive, yet cute!

No party is complete without a yummy punch! I made a simple Pineapple Lemonade Punch ahead of time and it was a hit at the party. You can find the full recipe here.

Lastly, I made some Hello Kitty paper lantern decorations. They are very inexpensive as well, and add a lot to your party décor! You can find my full Hello Kitty Lantern tutorial here.

We had a cake at our family birthday party but at Lennox’s friends party we had cupcakes and I just wanted to include those in this post as well!

Hello Kitty is such a fun party theme – you can be as creative and colorful as you want, or you can keep it simple with white and red/pink!

Hello Kitty Paper Birthday Banner

Besides the Hello Kitty Paper Lanterns that I made, this Hello Kitty Birthday Banner is my second favorite decoration – and one of my most favorite party decorations I’ve ever made! It really was quite simple – it just takes some time and patience.

How to Make a Birthday Banner

Materials Needed:

  • Cardstock (Various Pinks, Purple, Black, White)
  • Thin Pink and White Ribbon
  • Craft Bond Glue Stick
  • Silhouette Paper Cutter

How to Make:

  1. Create your layout before you get started. Figure out what you want it to say, where you want the Hello Kitty’s and your color pattern. Once I figured all of that out, I knew how many banner pennants that had to be cut out in each color, how many Hello Kitty’s, etc.
  2. Now that you know your layout, it’s time to cut out the banners. Using this silhouette .svg pennant banner template, you can print out all the pennants you need for your design.
  3. Now pick your font for the letters you want to cut out and create the cut outs using your Silhouette. I used Bubble Gum font and printed it out in black.
  4. Now it’s time to cut out the Hello Kitty’s. This part is the most time consuming – as there are many small cut outs and assembly. You can find the full package, along with the assigned colors in this Hello Kitty Silhouette .SVG package.
  5. Now you have everything you need and can assemble your banner pennants. I laid it all out on the ground prior to glueing anything on, to help eliminate mistakes.
  6. Once ready, start glueing everything on. I used an Elmer’s Craft Bond Extra Strength Glue Sticks as that was a more instant stick and I didn’t have to wait as long for the glue to dry.
  7. Once everything is dry, using thin white ribbon, i tied bows between each pennant. This gives the banner some flexibility and if you accidentally put something in the wrong spot – it’s no big deal to untie and move.
  8. Once everything is tied together, figure out where you are going to hang the banner and then add  on long pieces of pink thin ribbon to tie it to the wall/mantle or wherever it is being hung.

That’s it! It’s a little bit of a time consuming process but really it isn’t too difficult. If you get stuck and have any questions, just let me know – I would be happy to help.

One of Lennox’s Favorite Birthday Gifts

*I was compensated with product in return for this post. All opinions are 100% my own*

Last week was Lennox’s birthday – and like many kids – every toy that comes on tv, she wants! But one that she just kept going on and on and on about, was the Zippy Sack. This girl loves pillows, blankets and pajamas. She really can’t get enough of them – I think she gets that from me.

Well, we decided to give her a Zippy Sack for her birthday and her reaction? It was a great one!

zippy-sack-03She was so excited when she saw the bag and even more excited to see which animal she had. She said please pretty please is it the kitty? Yes! It was the kitty!zippy-sack-01I had no idea so much joy could come from this gift – but I’m so glad it has. Ever since she received the Zippy Sack, she has been excited to get into bed each night and it’s been so easy to make her bed and keep her bed straightened. zippy-sack-02

If you are unfamiliar with the Zippy Sack, it’s a soft and cuddly fleece blanket/sleeping bag/sheet all in one. You can just slip the Zippy Sack over your child’s bed sheet, zip it up and your kid’s have a soft and cozy spot to sleep, where the blankets won’t fall off in the middle of the night – and they now have a bed that is easy to make! The Zippy Sack is available in Kitty, Puppy, Dino and Panda and is available at www.ZippySack.com and at national retailers this fall.

While Lennox enjoys her Zippy Sack – it’s time to giveaway another Zippy Sack to one of my readers!  Use the rafflecopter widget below to enter. Open to US Residents Only, 18+.
