consignment sales are not just for baby stuff

Hey Parents! Consignment sales are not just for baby stuff! [+ Giveaway!]

Now that my daughter, who is 5 years old, is no longer a baby – sometimes consignment sale shopping can seem a little outgrown, but then I go back every sale and remember how amazing it really is! There are a number of items I always find at each sale I go to, that save me so much money over retail pricing.

Consignment Sales for Big Kids

Here are a few of my favorite items to look for:

Clothing: Clothes, clothes and more clothes. This is the number one item I get at consignment sales now. I am able to get Lennox’s full summer wardrobe for $150 or so. During the spring sales I love to find lots of sundresses, bathing suits and play clothes for summer camp. Another great clothing item to find are school uniforms – especially during the fall sale. They are usually about 90% off retail prices – you can’t beat that!

Shoes: Shoes, especially those for summer camp or playdates are great to find at consignment sales. Kids are tough on shoes and can out grown them so quickly, I hate to spend $30-40 a pair – $3-6 each is much better! Since usually your kids aren’t with you at the sale, try this tip to find does that fit without them there!

Books: There are endless boxes of books at Just Between Friends Fort Worth. Books are a great thing to find, especially on the half-price days. A book for 50cents to $2 is great, especially for hardcover books!

Games: Board games are abundant at Just Between Friends Fort Worth and a great addition to your playroom or family game night. Usually I can find board games in great condition for $2 or $3. I try to get 2 or 3 new ones each sale.

Toys: A lot of the toys that are at Just Between Friends are actually for younger children, but there are still some great Melissa & Doug craft sets, Barbie’s and other dolls and whatever the current trendy toy is! Finding a few new toys each sale as a “gift” right away is always fun too.

So, as you can see – there are plenty of items to shop for even when your kids outgrow all of the baby equipment and baby toys.

Just Between Friends Fort Worth, is by far my most favorite consignment sale. It has so many great deals and I look forward to it every Spring and Fall. The Spring 2016 sale is coming up within the next few weeks. If you aren’t familiar with Just Between Friends Fort Worth by now, it is Texas’ Largest children and maternity consignment sale. It is located at the Will Rogers Memorial Center Amon G. Carter Exhibit Hall in 75,000 sure feet. It will be open to the public March 3-6th (full schedule can be found here).

Children’s Consignment 101: Buying Shoes that FIT

It’s consignment sale season and as I prepare to head to my semi-annual shopping spree at Just Between Friends Fort Worth, I finally decided to start a Consignment 101 series on my blog. It will probably span over multiple months/years as we continue to meet up with consignment sale seasons, but I hope the tips are helpful for both newbie and veteran consignment shoppers!

My first tip is how to buy shoes that actually fit your kids (without them being there!). When I shop consignment sales, my daughter does not come with me – 1, because children aren’t allowed in the presages and 2, it is SO much easier to shop without her there!!

So what exactly is my tip and how do you do it? First off, trace your childs feet onto a piece of paper. You probably only need one foot but I did both just incase i either loose one at the sale or want to make sure something really will fit! Then you just need to cut them out and label which foot they are. Slip them into shoes as you are checking them out at the sale and you should be able to tell right away if it will be too small, too big or just right!
