We’re into the home stretch! It’s the week of Thanksgiving and Black Friday! In just a few days everyone should be figuring out their Christmas shopping lists. Today’s feature in my 12 Days of Christmas Toys Gift Guide series is an excellent one; GoldieBlox! They have an awesome mission and product!

I first heard of GoldieBlox in NYC this summer at Sweet Suite ’14 and I was so impressed. GoldieBlox takes a classic concept of building sets and puts their own unique twist on it. GoldieBlox has the mission and goal of getting girls building! If you look at the numbers, the engineering world is made up of mostly men, with only 14% female! Coming from a field that is filled with many men, I understand what GoldieBlox’s CEO Debbie Sterling felt went she went through her education with mostly male classmates. I personally knew this going into my field, and had no problem with it – but of course, having more female colleagues would always be nice.

Anyway, back to GoldieBlox, they want to encourage and teach children, with girls in the forefront, that building, construction and any type of engineering is fun! One of their newest building sets is called GoldieBlox and the Movie Machine. This set teaches kids how to make their own movies; how fun is that?

GoldieBlox and the Movie Machine

As with every other set, GoldieBlox and the Movie Machine comes with Goldie’s storybook explaining how she has teamed up with her friends to invent a solution to save the Bloxtown Film Festival from being cancelled. The book also walks kids though how to create the Movie Maker – with easy to follow illustrated steps. I love how they make a story out of it all!

The GoldieBlox and the Movie Maker set comes with:

  • 1 storybook,
  • 1 character figurine
  • 4 movie packs
  • 1 movie hoop
  • 1 movie reel
  • 2 mini pegboards
  • 2 long axles
  • 4 short axles
  • 2 mini axles
  • 4 pegs
  • 2 big wheel ends
  • 4 small wheel ends
  • 1 small wheel hub
  • 8 star stoppers
  • 4 elbow joints
  • 1 crank
  • 1 noodle belt
  • 1 star coupler

Whew, now that is a building set! With all of these pieces, your child can learn how to build a zoetrope, animation device and learn about illustration. This is for sure a toy that will need some supervision if you are working with a younger child – but I think that it is one that teaches them so much, encourages great skills and gets them thinking hard!

In addition to building this set and making a movie, you can download the Free GoldieBlox app! It will let you and your child learn more about the basics of animation and create animated GIFs. In this app, you can even create pictures to print out and use in the GoldieBlox and Movie Machine toy! So much fun!

Christmas Gift Guide for Kids: Art Easel, Easel Does It by B. Toys

12 Days of Christmas Toys: B. Easel Does It

Thanksgiving is this week – can you believe it? That means Christmas season is REALLY almost here! Today in my 12 Days of Christmas Toys – a Gift Guide for Kids series, I’m sharing a product from one of my all time favorite toy brands; B. Toys! The B. Easel Does It actually.

Christmas Gift Guide for Kids: Art Easel, Easel Does It by B. Toys

B. Toys has always been one of my favorite toy brands ever since I discovered it around Lennox’s first birthday at Target. I just love their philosophy and story. Here is a little sneak peek first at their story:

We don’t spend a lot of time thinking about how things are supposed to be.
Instead, we create toys that inspire individuality.
The designs don’t line up with mathematical precision.
The look, feel and function are inspired by the world around us. By our children’s faces. Our dreams. Our own childhoods. Our travels. By Peruvian textiles and New England foliage. By a pretty bar of soap that gave us a moment of delight.
Our process? Part joy. Part love. Part mischief. Part serendipity.

So today I’m excited to share with you on of their new products, an art easel – Easel Does It. This easel has been created for children ages 3-7 and lets them use their imagination to create masterpieces! This classically constructed easel is made of natural wood and bold colors. The Easel Does It has a dry eraser board as well as a chalkboard.

I have two features that I just love – the two handy storage trays that help hold crayons, markers and every other art supply your child may need!

The other are the paper clips that it comes with. We have another easel and we have had to make use of potato chip bag clips – which isn’t ideal! These clips make it easy for your little one to display their latest masterpiece! Maybe they will become the next Picasso!

If you have a little artist at home – I would highly recommend the B. toys Easel Does It for Christmas this year! The quality is so great and the product is one that your child will love for years to come! B. toys are available at your local Target!
