One of the best things we have bought this summer is a new grill! We never used our old grill but now that we have switched to charcoal, we have been cooking on the grill more than we have been cooking in the kitchen. It’s great on dishes, heat inside the house and Kyle is doing the cooking – so I can’t complain!

One thing that we introduced Lennox to was roasting marshmallows on the grill after dinner. She loves to come out and toast some marshmallows as her dessert – but sometimes, she can be impatient and want to roast marshmallows when we still have quite a while until dinner – or even on the nights we aren’t grilling at all.

I had seen a cute idea a while back for making your own personal marshmallow roaster and decided to try it myself, and make it about as girly as you could make it, just for Lennox! Before I could start, I had to get some new grilling supplies at Walmart, and of course I picked up Kraft Jet Puffed Marshmallows! Walmart also has a number of other Kraft products that are essential to your grilling nights!

We made some delicious corn on the cob to go with our ready-made dinner from the Walmart Deli / Marketplace, but Lennox just had to try out her own marshmallow roaster first, so we let her give it a try. It worked out great and it was really easy to make. Here is what you need to do.

What you need:

  • Small Terra-cotta flower pot
  • Aluminum Foil
  • Charcoal
  • Kraft Jet Puffed Marshmallows (the best!)
  • Skewers
  • optional – glitter and other decorations for the pot

STEP ONE: After gathering all of your materials, which you can find at Walmart, decorate your terra-cotta pot however you wish. We used glitter because, well, we have a super girly girl and she loves glitter (as do I)!

STEP TWO: Take a few small sheets of aluminum foil and line the inside of the pot. Press the aluminum foil tightly against the sides to form a cup inside the pot. Using heavy duty foil is recommended but I tried with regular weight, and it worked okay as well.

STEP THREE: Fill the pot with a few pieces of charcoal. Using some charcoal that is already presoaked in lighter fluid is the easiest and safest with kids.

STEP FOUR: Light the coals, there should quickly be a small flame – you can now start roasting your  Kraft Jet-Puffed Marshmallows!

Note: The coals will stay hot until they completely burn out – so either leave the terra-cotta post somewhere  it is safe or dump the coals into the grill when you are done. You should be able to toast quite a few marshmallows from the heat this personal marshmallow roaster will let off!

Now that you have your marshmallow roaster complete, it’s time to make some Smores to go along with your easy dinner!

  • Your favorite chocolate chip cookies
  • Kraft Jet-Puffed Marshmallows
  • Mini Marshmallow Roaster

STEP ONE: Using your new marshmallow roaster, roast the marshmallows to your desired crispiness!

STEP TWO: Once the marshmallow is complete, take two of your favorite chocolate chip cookies (or any kind of cookie for that matter) and sandwich the toasted Jet-Puffed Marshmallow in-between the cookies!

These are great to eat right away or even saved for later. We made them before dinner and they were still great by dessert time! Lennox had a lot of fun and I see us using this little roaster many times throughout the year!

Our mixture of grilling and ready-made food from Walmart made dinner time so very easy!

Staying Hydrated During Summer

We are in the heart of the summer and the temperatures just keep rising. This week the temperature is supposed to be in the triple digits every single day. The moment you walk outside, you’re HOT. But you can’t stay inside all the time either, especially with a family. We have to get out, get some fresh air and have some fun. So when we do head outside, whether it’s to go to the playground or go to the neighborhood pool, we just have to remember to always have drinks with us.

hydrationtogo-01I do feel like I’m always having a #momfail when it comes to this task. I forget to grab a bottle of water, a sports bottle of Lennox’s favorite drink or any beverage before running out the door – but then as soon as we are out and about, we’re all thirsty. So there have been countless times where we have to run into the local CVS to grab some drinks.

CVS Pharmacy is one of the spots that we stop, since it’s always convenient. When I was out the other day, without a drink (shocking, I know!), I ran into CVS Pharmacy for a few things and went to grab an Iced Tea (my preference over water.). There are about 10 types of sweet tea when you go anywhere in the south – so I decided to grab a few different ones to try out; Honest Tea and Gold Peak.

Then later that week, Lennox really wanted to play catch outside, but boy was it hot – 103 degrees at 6pm! I couldn’t really say no since we hadn’t gotten much outside time the last few days, so we got our softball gloves and headed outside.

She is finally starting to catch the ball, rather than dodge the softball! She got a super cute Hello Kitty softball glove and softball for her birthday and has really enjoyed using it so far. I see some T-Ball games in her future, but maybe I’ll wait until the weather gets a little cooler!

Once we were done playing catch, we were HOT so it was time to grab our drinks to cool off and stay hydrated.

If you are out and need to stop somewhere to grab a drink to stay hydrated, make sure to stop by CVS Pharmacy and pick up some Honest Tea, Gold Peak Tea, vitaminwater or smartwater. Also, to save more – CVS Pharmacy is now having a sale, 4/$5.00 (any combination) with $2 ExtraBucks when you use your ExtraCare card (offer available through 7/25). At that price you can stock up your fridge for all the summer fun you are going to have this year! If you don’t already have a CVS ExtraCare card – make sure you sign up for one – it’s quick, easy and best of all FREE!

Summer Fun: Squirt Gun Painting + Ice Cream Treats!

I participated in an Influencer Activation on behalf of Influence Central for Klondike. I received free product coupons to facilitate my review as well as compensation for my participation.”

Last week I was able to pick Lennox up early from school so that we could go home and do some fun summer activities. I am trying to let her have as much fun during the summertime that all the kids are having, even though Lennox has to be in school all day. The activity that we did that afternoon was a big hit – Water Color Painting with Squirt Guns! It really was an easy activity and Lennox loved how her paintings turned out! These were a great addition to our art canvas’.

Here is how you can do the same activity with your kids!

Water Color Painting with Squirt Guns

What you will need:

  • Water Based Kid’s Paint
  • Water
  • Squirt Guns
  • Plastic Measuring Cup with Spout
  • Canvas or Large Paper

In a plastic measuring cup (make sure it has a spout), pour in a good amount of tempera paint in your desired color.

Add equal amount of warm water and mix together well.

Pour the mixture into a squirt gun. Repeat the process until you have all the colors you want! I just did the 3 primary colors.

Once you are ready, set up your canvas outside – and let your little artists create! This is a really easy activity for many ages to participate in – I would suggest having plenty of additional canvas’ or posters available – as your kids will want to use up all the paint in the squirt guns!

It was really hot outside that afternoon, so after we finished our fun painting activity, we decided to grab a yummy treat out of the freezer and cool off! Lennox’s choice was a Klondike Cookie Dough Swirl Bar.

This was the first time Lennox had a Klondike bar and I think she loved it! Klondike Bars are something that I always remember from being a kid and now they have so many great flavors; Cookie Dough Swirl, as well as Heath, REESE’S, Mint Chocolate Chip, Krunch, Caramel Pretzel, OREO, Dark Chocolate, Rocky Road, Double Chocolate, Neapolitan, and Original.

Klondike now has a newly launched ice cream treat – Klondike Kandy Bars. They are a combination of Chocolate Klondike Shell and creamy ice cream and candy bar goodness! Klondike Kandy Bars come in the new Mint Fudge Cookie, as well as Caramel & Peanuts, Fudge Krunch, and Cookies & Cream.
