Take a ‘Brain Break’ with Nintendo DS and Yo-kai Watch + Giveaway

This post was sponsored by Nintendo as part of an Influencer Activation for Influence Central. I received complimentary products to facilitate my review.

With our recent move and so much change going on – Lennox has had a tough transition into a new school, new friends, new house and about 10 other things, plus she’s 5! That’s a lot of change for a little 5-year-old.  Lennox spends almost all of her days at school, learning and working hard. Most of it is technology free as well. So when she gets home or on the weekend, she wants downtime just like we all do. In theory I’d love to work on extra things with her, do something educational or even get outside more – but really, she just needs a ‘brain break’ – and lets be honest – so do mom and dad! So usually that means she is free to watch some tv, play on the computer or play video games.

yokai-watch3 She recently got a “hand me down” Nintendo 3DS, so we have started looking for games that are age appropriate for her to play. Some of the games are easy to play but there are too many on-screen directions that she can’t follow. However, when we received Yo-kai Watch, it seemed like a great fit for her. There was not too much story for her to figure out and read and she could jump right into the game. She eagerly sat down and played it, with a a little help from Dad! I could hear them in the other room talking about what the Yo-Kai were doing and her character, which she created, Eleanor. Where she picked the same Eleanor, I have no idea!

If you are unfamiliar with Yo-Kai Watch, here is a little more information: Yo-kai Watch is a Japanese video game that is just now starting in the US. Yo-kai are mischievous little creatures that inhabit the world. The player must find and befriend them to create teams and battles versus other Yo-kai. Yo-kai Watch is made exclusively for Nintendo 2DS, 3DS and 3DSXL for $39.99 wherever video games are sold. yokai-watch

12 Days of Christmas Toys - Skylanders Trap Team

12 Days of Christmas Toys: Skylanders Trap Team

Here we go with Day 5 of the 12 Days of Christmas Toys – A Gift Guide for Kids! Today I wanted to tell you about the newest Skylanders release – Skylanders Trap Team!

12 Days of Christmas Toys - Skylanders Trap Team

Skylanders Trap Team is all about having your Sklyanders use the elements to help find and capture the prison escaped villains of Skylands! It really is the ultimate Skylanders adventure. Skylanders has been around for quite some time now and Lennox actually loves to play it with her Dad, but she doesn’t actually play the game the way it’s designed to – She loves to switch out the different Skylander characters on the portal and see what happens on screen. I look forward to when she learns to play a little more and she can battle it out with Kyle!

The newest Skylanders Trap Team is creating a whole new experience beyond the traditional gaming system by creating a new experience in the tablet world – including iPad, Kindle Fire and Android tablets!

Whether you are interested in a traditional game console game or tablet, the Starter Kit is a great gift as it gives you everything you need to get playing right away!

The Starter kit includes:

  • 1 Video Game
  • 1 NEW Traptanium Portal™
  • 2 Skylanders Figures
  • 2 Traps
  • 2 Character Sticker Sheets with Secret Codes
  • 2 Trading Cards
  • 1 Character Poster

You can find Skylanders Trap Team on Xbox 360, Xbox One, Playstation 4, Playstation 3, Nintentendo 3DS, Nintendo Wii and Tablets today at all major retailers!

Although, I don’t have a giveaway today – I wanted to share with you a fun toy for the older child today. Don’t forget about all the other giveaways I have going on – you don’t want to miss them!

Having Fun with LeapFrog LeapTV!

I first heard about LeapTV at Blogger Bash in NYC this summer, along with many other products I have been sharing, and I was extra excited when I saw that LeapFrog had created a kids-centric video game system. We have the Wii, XBox One, Playstation 3 – the whole shebang – but in general, they are not created with young children, 3 – 8 years old, in mind. The LeapTV by LeapFrog succeeds in this! The LeapTV was created with kids in mind the whole time, from the games to the controller, to how you play, it gets down to their level and is so much fun!

Lennox was just a TAD excited when we got this package in the mail. She immediately knew it was a video game system like daddy’s! And when she saw that there was a dancing game, she was literally jumping for joy.

We set up the system in no time – plug it into the wall and into a HDMI port and it’s ready to play! So simple! Now it was time to learn through playing. She started dancing and was going a little crazy!

The games itself are great – the system has a few games already installed on it with the option to buy more in the app store. The cartridge games that we have are Dance and Sports. Right up Lennox’s alley. The Dance game is great – because it incorporates learning into every dance.

Whether you have to learn how to join letters together and make words, to picking which words rhyme – you are working on your language and vocabulary skills while dancing and jumping around.

Lennox had her neighbor friend over to play with us and they were able to figure out how to set up the game for two players without much help and they would wait patiently (that is amazing in itself) for their turn. When they both won – they were very excited for each other!

I would call the LeapTV an instant success and favorite in Lennox’s book. Her very favorite part of the Dance game is the doodle dance – you create a picture while dancing – here is a video of Lennox trying out all the different ways to dance!

I’m pretty sure once she finds out that there are Sofia the First, Jake & The Neverland Pirates and Bubble Guppies games – she will be adding them to her Christmas wish list! If you are looking for a video game system for your kids, but still want an educational toy and games – you really need to check out LeapFrog’s LeapTV – I don’t think you will be disappointed!

Note: I was provided a LeapFrog party pack from MomSelect, Mommy Parties and LeapFrog. All photos, vidoes and opinions are 100% my own.
