Saving the Environment in Small Ways

Environment

Climate change is real, and every bit of scientific evidence backs it up. In fact, the United Nations has revealed that climate change is not just a defining issue of our time. We, as a society, are defining this historical moment. The changing weather patterns will eventually threaten food production, and the rising sea level could cause flooding all over the world. With this, global action must be made. Protests all over the world call for drastic actions and accountability, all to avoid irreversible damage that could wipe out ecosystems and life as we know it.

Ever wonder how individuals can help, though? What do we do to help save Mother Earth? The good news is that we can. And there are plenty of ways.

Conserve energy

One of the best ways to help save the environment is to make your home more energy-efficient. Installing commercial solar panels in Utah can be an option. Commercial solar panels are available in Utah, Ohio, Los Angeles, and every other state across the country. Your windows can be a great and less expensive option, too.

In fact, windows are responsible for 25% of residential heat gain and loss. Utilize your windows throughout season changes. If air conditioning isn’t needed, do not use it. The same goes for heaters. Ensuring that your home has proper insulation will be enough, thereby helping you conserve energy.

Conserve water

The littlest of things can make a huge difference. For instance, every time you turn the faucet off while brushing your teeth, you will save gallons of water. Beware of leaky faucets, too. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) reveals that ignoring a leaky faucet drip as much as 90 gallons of water straight down the drain every single day. Fix it; it’s dirt cheap and easy. Also, stop drinking bottled water. Filtered tap water is better, as it will save you a ton of cash. Your plastic waste will also be reduced in the process.

Ditch your car; walk, bike, or use the public transit instead

Walking and riding your bike are two of the best ways to reduce greenhouse gases. Moreover, you get to exercise while you walk or bike. It’s both saving the world and taking care of yourself. If you live in an area that can’t be reached on foot, make use of public transit. Take the bus or train. Whatever the case, remember that a car off the road makes so much difference.

Follow the three R’s: reduce, reuse, and recycle

You can help reduce pollution by merely placing that bottle of soda into a designated recycling bin, as opposed to throwing it into a random trash can. This goes the same for paper and cans. EPA has revealed a study on 7,000 workers who recycled their office paper waste for an entire year. By doing so, they found that they helped save the environment, equivalent to taking almost 400 cars off the road. To further bring the three R’s into action, bring reusable bags whenever you shop and try to avoid disposable utensils.

Following these simple steps can definitely make an impact on improving the Earth’s state; small steps go a long way. You will be able to reduce your carbon footprint and the production of greenhouse gases. With the current progress of the world, it’s now evident that taking care of our planet is more than just a responsibility; it’s a necessity, one where our survival is at stake.
