Five Skincare Blunders to Avoid at All Costs

A skincare regimen does wonders for your skin. Since the skin is the body’s largest organ, we should take great care of it. The earlier you start caring for your skin, the better.

While proper skincare is a must, many have tons of excuses for neglecting their skin. Some simply fail to make time to take care of their skin. Others lack the funds to buy their skincare essentials. But if you wish to maintain healthy and beautiful skin, you’ll need to make an effort to cleanse and moisturize it regularly.

You may already know the things that are helpful in staying healthy, young, and beautiful. What you may not know is that some of your habits can actually wreak havoc on your skin. By avoiding the following habits, you can take better care of your skin:

Skimping on or skipping your sunscreen

Some people can’t live without their favorite sunscreen. Most fail to use sunscreen regularly. But others even forget to put on facial sunscreen whenever they leave the house. This is a big no-no, as skimping on or skipping the sunscreen altogether gives you little to no protection against harmful UVB and UVA rays. If you don’t want your skin to age prematurely, make sure to wear sunscreen even when it is cold outdoors.

Poor post-pool regimen

Whether you swim in a pool often or not, you are already aware that chlorine is present in the water. Too much chlorine is never good for your body. Remember that chlorine can affect your dyed hair’s color and even strip your swimsuit’s color away. Just imagine how much damage it can cause to your skin and eyes if you are constantly exposed to chlorine and fail to wash your skin with sudsy soap?

Exfoliating daily

Many people are obsessed with exfoliating their skin that they try to do this as often as possible. Some even use their favorite body scrubs daily. While exfoliating allows you to remove dead skin cells, doing it too often and with the wrong scrub can do more harm than good to your skin. Choose an effective whitening body scrub that is gentle, FDA-approved and paraben-free.

Taking a long, relaxing hot shower

After a long day, it feels great to let hot water run down your body. It even feels better when you enjoy a hot bubble bath after a long hard day of work. But your favorite long and hot shower can actually strip the natural oils found in your skin. The result is dry and irritated skin. Make sure that you take only short, hot showers and stick to a lower temperature as often as possible.

Using the wrong pillowcases

It may come as a surprise that your favorite pillowcases can be the culprit behind your breakouts. As a general rule, it is best to use silky pillowcases washed without fabric conditioner. This allows your skin enough time to rest and even reduce your chances of getting wrinkles on your face.

With your skin being your body’s major protector, it only makes sense that you take great care of it. You may be busy with your job and your other responsibilities, but your skin deserves your time and attention, too. So start by taking better care of your skin by avoiding the mistakes listed above.
